Useful Info

How difficult is Island Peak climbing:

Island Peak climbing is considered to be difficult and challenging.  It is rated as Alpine PD+. Actually, it is not technically challenging but physically demanding.  Mostly, the experienced climbers who have achieved some experience of climbing by climbing other peaks dare to do this climb. Technical climbing course, least  6 days,  with crampons and ropes is required prior to embarking the destination. Thus, it is recommended to prepare accordingly. We design our itinerary to provide an ample level of acclimatization.

Can anyone join:

Yeh, we can join the group because climbing is considered to be easier in a group. However, solo climbing is also possible. We will be accompanied with an international climbing leader with other members if we join the group. Each member will be found helping each other during the climb.

Do I need any prior climbing experience for Island Peak:

Yeh, we need to have prior climbing experience for Island Peak climbing. We, at least, must be with a 6-day technical climbing experience.   After climbing other less challenging peaks, the climbers dare to challenge this peak. We recommend you to do regular exercise and do short hikes in order to keep yourself fit .

Why climb Island peak with Magic Expedition Trekking And Tour:

Climbing Island Peak with Magic Expedition Trekking and Tour will be a successful adventure for a lifetime. The team we offer is always professional and well-trained to handle foreseen and unforeseen occurrences during the climb. We assure your safety and success.  We suggest you right to be with proper equipment for a lifetime adventure.

We provide Sleeping Bag, Tents, Duffle Bag, Map and Down Jacket. Considering the inconveniency of the climbers, we also offer climbing boots (size taken after your arrival), Black Diamond crampons, ice axe, ice bar, ice screw, zoomer, harness, figure of eight, safety helmet, plain and locking carabineers, prussic cord and new climbing rope, etc Considering  Except these, the individual climber has to afford all required equipment for Island Peak Climbing.

What is the success rate on Island peak climb:

It was 100 % in 2017.  We have been operating Island Peak Climbing for the last 10 years and we have resulted in 90 percent success rate. Sometimes, due to not ample acclimatization and bad weather condition, cant triumph over it.

How is the climbing Day? Do we start early in the morning:

Obviously, the climbing day is the most significant day of this adventure trip. We have to be both physically and mentally committed and equipped to scale this peak. We begin our trip early in the morning at around 3 because we have to face a strong blow of wind if we do not move earlier. We have to work hard for more than 8- 9 hours.  If we follow this time schedule, we scale the summit at 9 and get back to Base Camp to have lunch. This scale is incredibly amazing and memorable.

How does Magic Expedition guarantee safety against Altitude sickness:

First, we guarantee against altitude sickness with apt acclimatization and the proper foods and safe drinking water in the high altitude. Secondly, we afford such a team and the climbing leader who is very conscious about altitude sickness and they are always medically prepared. Similarly,  our team will carry oxygen cylinders and chambers and you all will be strictly guided what to do and what not to do during the climb. So far, we haven’t faced such a critical case regarding altitude sickness.

Why always opt for a reputed company with the professional leader for Island Peak:

It is an adventure in the mountain. No one wants to challenge the adventure without professional leaders offered by a professional company and professionals are always reliable. Professional company and guide don’t mislead you and they provide a world-class service regarding accommodation, equipment, flight, and guidelines to follow during the climb. And in case of emergency or crisis, the professional can assist us in no time.

Heard Lukla be world's dangerous airstrip? Is there any alternative:

Yeh, it is true however the pilots are professional and they land the small planes very safely. Lukla airport is hidden into a small valley at the lap of the mountain. If the weather condition is not good, we either have to cancel or postpone our flight. This occurs frequently. If it continues to occur, we optionally can fly with a helicopter which costs extra.

What are the average hours walking per day on Island peak:

It is 6-8 hours per day.  But the day we head to scale Island Peak will differ as your pace in the higher elevation. This includes ample acclimatization and we even have the opportunity to explore the mountain and the trails.

What kind of food and accommodation are we to expect in the trip:

The accommodation will be normal mountain accommodation with clean common toilet. Occasionally, we get attached accommodation but hard to find. These mountain lodges will offer you the best class of accommodation.
We will have several options for food. The restaurants will offer us almost every item that we get in cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara. The food they offer will be better than we have in major cities. You will experience the organic flavor of food items.

How am I to communicate in case of an emergency, Any communication facility:

The Everest region is well covered by the network. We can get a local sim card and get access to the network easily. Each lodge and guest house offers us a Wi-Fi facility but for this, we have to pay a certain charge. In this way, we can connect with our family and friends. Interestingly, the summit of Island Peak has no good network coverage.  In case of emergency, the guide or the leader and the leader will find the immediate measure to solve the problem by contacting us through a satellite phone.

Can I charge my devices and have hot showers in Island Peak trek:

Yes, you can charge your devices like cell phones and cameras in every lodge or guest house you stay. But they charge you very little amount of money. It may be like between 100-200 Nepali rupees. We better recommend you bring own backup or extra charged battery which will be more convenient.
We say ‘Yes’. We get a hot shower all around the trip. This also costs extra money. This may vary from 2-7 dollars. But, we and our don’t allow you to take shower at the base camp because of probable crisis in the high altitude regarding health. Rather, we provide you a big bowl of hot water for your cleaning.

What if I am very slow in the group:

In order to avoid the slow pace of the climber, the leader will frequently counsel to walk together because the problem can be solved easily in a team. If such a situation occurs, the leader will take care of those who walk slow and his assistants will take care of the others to make the trip less strenuous.

What about the drinking water facility:

We are environmentally aware and our team as well. We don’t allow our clients to use plastic bottles for carrying water in the mountain. Rather, we request you to bring a Nalgene metal water bottle which you can fill with boiled water. Every guest house provides boiled water which is safe to drink. This is provided without any extra charge.

Do I need the travel insurance for an emergency to join the climb of Island peak:

We strongly suggest having all-inclusive travel insurance for this climb. We don’t expect any extremity in the mountain because our leader is well trained but in some cases, we may have to evacuate the climber form the mountain. So, in order for these situations, travel insurance is a must.

What permits:

Special Island Peak Climbing Permit, Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, and TIMS which are required for Island Peak climbing.
We need to both we, Magic Expedition and Tour will collect for your convenience.

Is it doable in winter:

Island Peak Climbing can be done all around the however the winter months are chill and the climbers have to protect themselves from cold. If we do proper precautions, of course, we can do it. Many of the adventure lovers escape winter for doing Island Peak climbing.

What is the best time to do Island Peak:

April to mid-June during spring and September to November during autumn before the acute winter is considered to be the best time to climb Island peak. These two seasons offer the view of the 360-degree mountain range and astounding landscapes.
